Extra-Heavy Track Mat (Bog Mat)

A bog mat for the worst ground

When the ground is peat, marsh, or saturated clay and the plant is a crawler crane or a piling rig, you need a bog mat — a large-format track mat for heavy equipment that works by sheer footprint. These are the crane mats (mats for cranes) that go under crawler cranes, and as excavator and dozer track mats they carry tracked plant across ground a smaller mat would sink into. How it floats heavy plant

Bearing pressure is load divided by contact area, so roughly doubling the area halves the pressure on the soil. The extra-heavy mat trades portability for that area: at 175–385 kg it is a forklift or telehandler lift, not a two-person one. In return it carries the heaviest tracked machines across ground no hand-portable mat would survive.

Joints that do not pump mud

An overlapping flange and locking-pin system ties the mats into a rigid, continuous platform. The overlap stops mud pumping up between mats under repeated loading, and the pins keep a long run from walking apart as machines track over it — the failure mode that ruins a cheap temporary road.

Pipeline, swamp, and wind-farm work

These are the mats for pipeline right-of-way across wetland, swamp access, remote-site haul roads, and wind-farm crane pads where the standing has to hold a crawler crane on soft fill. Spec the thickness to the machine and the softness of the ground; this is what you reach for when a standard or heavy-duty ground protection mat is not enough.
